The MUSE is back to tell you what to look forward to and what has been spinning in the record players of our minds this week. Check out your weekly chunk of videos, lovingly bequeathed by our staff.

Shameless: Like a catchy Katy Perry song, I just can’t get this new show out of my head. Shameless, which premiered Jan. 10 on Showtime, features an all star cast with gritty, clever writing. If you haven’t seen it yet, I urge you to find it anyway you can. The show combines the darker side of living in poverty with heartwarming, endearing characters who show incredible dedication to their loved ones, showing us all a redefined family struggling in the realities of the great recession. It’s topical, beautifully shot and seriously engaging. In my opinion, this is a MUST SEE. No, really…watch it Sunday night. Please.

The Decemberists at House of Blues:

The Portland-based Decemberists are one of my favorite bands and they’re taking over the House of Blues Friday and Saturday night. I’m seeing them tonight and I’m pretty pumped for this show. They’ll be drawing songs from The King Is Dead (their latest and folksiest release that surprisingly beat out Kidz Bop 19 for top position on the Billboard Top 200) and their impressive back-catalogue of indie rock.  Rumors have them playing their 12-minute stunner, The Island, on this tour…hell yes.

As that song is too long for youtube, this is “Don’t Carry it All.”

The National – “Lemonworld”

My headphones recently broke so I’ve been living off songs that have been embedded in my head. Today I can’t seem to get The National’s “Lemonworld” out of my mind. Matt Berninger’s hush vocals are perfect on this track and are about enough to make you want to “sit in and die”…in a good way.

Kanye West – “Runaway”

It’s beautiful, it’s dark, it’s twisted and it’s 35 minutes long. In the style of Michael Jackson’s epic music videos, Kanye West’s “Runaway” abridges his recent album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, with stunning effects, elaborate dance sequences and some significant nods to the King of Pop. The film (if you’re comfortable calling it that) tells the story of a beautiful Phoenix fallen to Earth  whom ‘Ye falls in love with.’ Weird, we know, but excellent. There are explosions, a giant Michael Jackson float, ballerinasand slow-motion running. Still not convinced? Former Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks walks around half-naked the entire 35 minutes. “Runaway” is certainly no “Thriller,” but give West his due. By the end, you’ll be left thinking, ” What does it all mean?” Here’s a hint: … it’s about Kanye West.

Yeasayer – “Madder Red”

What in Jim-Henson-hell is that thing?! Half Muppet, half tumor? And how did it get so snuggly with Kristen Bell? These are some of a dozen questions you may find yourself asking during Yeasayer’s characteristically weird video for “Madder Red,” and you won’t be alone. Whatever’s going on, the only question we have by video end is: Do you need a hug, Kristen Bell?

“Pale Kid Raps Fast”

I think this one speaks for itself…

Yeah, you missed them last night. But don’t worry, the cuddliest dub squad around will be back at the House of Blues March 5 with Rebelution. Here’s a little song to tide you over.

And here’s a little something to accompany you when you’re groovin’ your fine self down Commonwealth Avenue today or stumbling through the back alleys of Allston tonight. It don’t matter where, it don’t matter when, sometimes you just gotta put a glide in your stride, a dip in your hip and come on to the mothership. Ain’t nothin’ but a party, y’all.
