If you were a true 90s child, then “Boy Meets World” was something that you watched every day when you came home from school. As the years went on, you grew up with Cory, Topanga, Shawn, Eric, and Mr. Feeny. From their young and awkward middle school days to their angst filled high school years and finally to college and eventual marriage, you stuck with them through thick and thin.
Now, after almost 14 years, it’s back (and with a teaser trailer to prove it). Your favorite gang has come together once again, and this time it’s to inspire a new generation of preteens (but let’s be honest, a large amount of twenty-somethings will be tuning in as well).
“Girl Meets World” is a spin-off that is centered around Cory and Topanga’s daughter, Riley, and their son, Auggie. Though it will be centered around their lives, guest stars of the original show are rumored to appear as well.
Personally, I’m looking forward to a Cory and Shawn reunion and an appearance from the one and only Mr. Feeny. I could not have imagined my childhood without this show and for them to be reuniting is a dream come true. I’m pretty sure I’ve learned a majority of my life lessons from “Boy Meets World” (and also “Full House”), and I’m hoping that “Girl Meets World” will continue the legacy.

If for some reason you escaped the 90’s without knowing what Boy Meets World is, let me fill you in. Boy Meets World was in my opinion one of the best shows of the 90’s, let alone the Disney Channel. The lovable sitcom spanned seven years and ended in 2000 after following the characters lives from middle school through college.
If you were a fan, you are probably exited about the rumored sequel spin-off that has now finally been confirmed, according to an exclusive report by tvline.com. ‘Girl Meets World,’ set to take off sometime next year, will follow Riley Matthews, the 13-year-old daughter of Boy Meets World’s protagonists, Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence. To make things complete, Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel were asked to reprise their roles by picking up ten years later, this time as mom and dad. There’s no official word yet on any other returning characters such as Shawn Hunter, Cory’s rebellious best friend or Eric Matthews, Cory’s wisecrack older brother. However, I would not be surprised if I saw a recurrence of any old characters as guest stars. I mean, how could you ever leave out the legendary Mr. Feeny?
So what do we make of this? Despite very little information on the early workings of Girl Meets World, I believe it is headed in the right direction. One good sign is that Michael Jacobs, Boy Meets World creator, will be heading the new project. Disney has a way of pinpointing talent, so there’s a fair chance that whoever lands the role of Riley will make a good fit. That said, Boy Meets World has set the bar high for itself, which may make it hard for Girl Meets World to reach its former 1990s glory no matter how brilliant the show may turn out to be.
Some fans of the show, including myself, may be slightly apprehensive of this new spinoff, mostly because of the direction Disney has taken in recent years. They fear that if Girl Meets World is anything like the hollow and nonsensical crap that Disney releases today, the show could be a nightmare. Nonetheless, I’m still excited to see how it will turn out and many of us will give it a chance by tuning in when it airs.
